The first time I saw one of these was… the first time I went to a sex toy store in Manhattan. It was the year after I had turned 18; my bestie and I wanted to go on an adventure to one of those types of stores. She ended up buying the Original Hitachi Magic Wand, and I, the We-Vibe Rave & [LELO Smart Wand Medium]. Little did I know, that a few months later, I too, would be craving a wand like that for myself.
But I didn’t like the fact that the Original’s head was made of a porous material, so I put that craving aside until I found out that there was a rechargeable version with a silicone head. I immediately took advantage of EdenFantasys’ Reviewer Program, which gave me a 30% discount in exchange for an honest review. A week later, a plain cardboard box arrived at my doorstep.
What's in the Box
Inside that plain shipping box, amongst loads of recycled paper (which served as a cushion) was the modernized and rather sturdy cardboard box. First things first – this thing is heavy. Like, bludgeon-heavy. I am confident I could easily knock someone unconscious if they walk in on me using it and I don’t want them there. Let's just say that a small part of me wants to get caught using it to have an excuse to do that one day - even if just for the comedic factor.
Sliding the plastic baggie off revealed an exceptionally smooth, slightly-squishy silicone head. I breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that I would not be dealing with something porous. At first, I thought there was a nice balance to the weight of the wand, however, if you’ve a weak wrist like me, you’ll be quick to notice the strain it can cause. The Magic Wand Rechargeable arrived without a charge, so despite my eagerness, I had to set it aside to charge for some 3.5hr before actually getting to play with it.
As mentioned before, charging this beast took a whopping 3.5hr. While charging, the light displays a solid red, and when it’s done charging, it turns green. I wish there were more toys that could last this long - it would be easier to travel with them.
When the battery’s low, that same light’ll flash red – which is a nice touch, because I hate it when I start masturbating, and then ten minutes in, the toy sputters to a halt without any warning.
This thing is as intuitive as it can get – an on button (which always starts on the lowest settings), a strength button (which increases the intensity from 1 to 4, then cycles back down to 1), and a patterns button (which there are 4 of). When you power it on, the first & smallest of the for lights turns on to a light blue. The higher the strength, the more blue lights turn on. When you start messing with patterns, the light turn on green instead of a blue.
My first round with the Magic Wand Rechargeable was through some yoga pants while watching Lost Girl on Netflix. It’s a somewhat-sexy series, about a succubus chick, and despite being full of filler content, it grew on me. Anyway, as soon as I turned this wand on, I was immediately pleased with its vibration strength. I placed my hand atop its head and cycled through all the strengths and patterns. Eventually I settled on the second strength (without a pattern, since I don’t fancy those), and pressed it against my groin.
I could easily feel the deep, rumbly vibrations through my yoga pants. Twenty minutes later, the Magic Wand Rechargeable shut off on its own – an automatic “feature”, which begs to be called a bug instead, that’s meant to keep the wand from overheating. But… it only gets a little warm at best. Moderately annoyed, I turned it back on and continued, this time turning it off with every other scene change until the episode was over.
By the end of that episode, I was ridiculously horny and unsatisfied. Somewhere throughout the series, I had upped the strength to 3, then to 4… which was actually too much through my clothes and made me numb and itchy(??). I ended up dipping back down to 2 and teasing myself until the credits showed up. Clearly no orgasm, no squirt either, but one hell of a turn on which craved closure with [one] of my [favorite] [dildos].
This “Cadillac of Vibrators” is lovely, but throughout my re-tries with it, I’ve realized a handful of things:
- ● Pressing it against myself for longer periods of time (30min+) with a clothing barrier irritates my skin & makes it red & itchy for a good hour or two.
- ● Using it against skin directly does not cause the above issue.
- ● My clit really likes the rumbly vibrations, but if it had to choose between broad & pinpoint precision, it would go with the latter.
The Magic Wand Rechargeable is big and heavy. Literally a bludgeon weapon. I’ve injured my dominant hand (and wrist) twice in the past, and my wrist gets utterly exhausted and sore after a short period of time. Oftentimes I have to hold this wand at an odd angle, and this makes that soreness seep in more quickly than I’d like it to. Switching hands works (temporarily), but it’s not something ideal.
Pressing the head of the Magic Wand Rechargeable against the base of a dildo is awesome. The rumbly vibrations travel nice n’ deep. However, I worry that applying that friction will lead to a bad ending for either the wand or the dildo over time. I hope to get some squishy G-Spot attachments for the Magic Wand Rechargeable, as I’ve heard many reviewers singing unending praises for them.
In other news, the Magic Wand Rechargeable is a lovely ‘general’ massager – good for the taught muscles on your back, shoulders, and neck that keep nagging you for your attention. Only thing I’d like to note is be careful not to get your hair caught in the neck area of the wand, because it’s not a pleasant experience.
I don’t use any lube with this toy – but if you find that you must, stick to a water-based type so you don’t ruin the lovely silicone head. I usually clean it with a damp paper towel – I neither have toy cleaner, nor do I believe in that stuff.
What it Feels Like
It feels like something ridiculously powerful that is desperate to vibrate its way right out of your hands. I’m sure that majority of the population has felt something vibrate throughout their lives – be it a phone or electric toothbrush, or even the ski lift while going up the mountain, for God’s sake.
The vibrations are luxuriously rumbly, not buzzy – at least most of the time. They get a wee bit buzzy when they’re set to the higher intensities. They travel deep into the body. When used against [a favorite dildo], the entire dildo turns into a dream-come-true vibrator. The only problem with that is that in order to actually cum, I need something on my clit at the same time as my G-Spot and managing 3 toys simultaneously is something really difficult to achieve when you’ve only got two hands.
Comparisons to Other Toys
As of writing this review, I have three wands total. Unlike either of the two mentioned below, the Magic Wand Rechargeable can be used while it’s charging. So, if this thing dies on you mid-fantasy, you can always plug in that lovely 2m cord and continue on as you please.
The Magic Wand Rechargeable easily puts my [LELO Smart Wand Medium] to shame in terms of strength. It’s almost twice its size, though, so I’m not exactly surprised. The latter is also waterproof and has more patterns; however, its battery doesn’t last nearly as long. It’s also more expensive than the Magic Wand Rechargeable. Basically, if you want something weaker and waterproof, you could consider the [LELO Smart Wand Medium], but I really wouldn’t recommend it.
I also have a wand from EdenFantasys called the [Maximus], which (as of late April 2020) I actually like more than the Magic Wand Rechargeable. That one’s got 5 speeds, it’s actually stronger, lighter, and most importantly, it’s waterproof. The [Maximus] is also cheaper, the battery’s also a dream come true, and it doesn't turn off every 20 minutes. It does warm up more than the Magic Wand Rechargeable, though. The [Maximus] is currently my favorite wand.
- 1. 2,700 RPM - vibrations reach my wrist
- 2. 3,800 RPM - vibrations reach my elbow
- 3. 5,400 RPM - vibrations reach my (high) bicep
- 4. 6,300 RPM - vibrations reach the far end of my shoulder blade.
When compared to the Magic Wand Original’s technical specs, the two speeds were 6,000RPM on high & 5,000 RPM on low. I don’t own the Magic Wand Original, so I can’t physically compare the two, but based on the technical data provided on Vibratex’s Website, it’s obvious that the Magic Wand Rechargeable has more variety.
Although the vibrations are indeed rumbly, they do feel a tiny, tiny bit more buzzy between the 2nd and 3rd strengths, but the sheer, brutal strength has me a shaking mess whenever I’m using it with a G-Spot dildo and pressure-wave toy together.
Regarding patterns – there’s four of them. They don’t deviate from the ‘norm’. I could care less about the patterns, but here they are in case you’re curious:
- ● Two short pulses, one long
- ● Steady pulses
- ● Faster steady pulses
- ● Steady escalating
The Magic Wand Rechargeable is a bit quieter than I thought it would be – that said, it’s far from silent. I decided to run a basic test. I propped it up against a pillow (so the head wouldn’t touch the mattress; that would make it very loud) and turned it on. Please do note that applying pressure to the head will increase the motor’s ‘effort’, so it will be louder when you do that against whatever it is you’re using the wand on.
- ● 1st strength: couldn’t hear it 7m away
- ● 2nd strength: couldn’t hear it 10m away.
- ● 3rd strength: can hear it 10m away, but just barely
- ● 4th strength: can hear it 12m away, but just barely
The Magic Wand Rechargeable’s design is pretty similar to that of the Magic Wand Original’s – an off-white body with blue buttons and neck. When holding it, my wrist gets tired after a few minutes because its weight is not very balanced – the side the head’s on is heavier than the side you plug it in to charge. That off-balance I can ignore if I’m simply grinding against the wand or loosely keeping it up against me as I’m laying down, but if I have to actually hold it up, it’s a bit annoying. Also, the head is a bit of a lint magnet.
Although I can’t orgasm with the Magic Wand Rechargeable by itself (at least not yet), it’s a wonderful addition to many peoples’ toyboxes. I can easily bring myself to squirt with this thing angled properly against my clit. Yes, I said angled. If done properly, I squirt like a freakin’ water fountain – and as such, I worry that this not-waterproof wand will one day malfunction. The squirts with this toy are powerful as heck; I could almost classify them as mini-orgasms due to how pleasing they can be. That said, as pleasing as they are, they’re not fully satisfying like how an orgasm can be.
I can get an orgasm with this wand if and only if I get simultaneous stimulation internally as well as externally - and when that happens, the orgasms are great. The broad stimulation won’t make me squirt, at least not in this life. If anything, it makes my vulva itchy and raw after some time. Like I mentioned in a previous section, my clit prefers pinpoint stimulation, and I can only do that at specific angles with the Magic Wand Rechargeable. In either case, I highly suggest throwing a towel beneath you before giving this a try.
Overall, I do like the Magic Wand Rechargeable. Quite a lot. It’s versatile and I would love to use it on many a partner. I especially adore using it against a dildo that I can thrust into myself while holding a pressure-wave toy against my clit – then I’m in heaven. I truly wish the Magic Wand Rechargeable were waterproof like the [Maximus], but there’s only so much you can ask for. I don’t know what would have to be done to keep my skin from going numb/raw from somewhat lengthier uses when using it through clothes.
As mentioned in an earlier section of this review, I received this product from EdenFantasys at a 30% discount in exchange for an honest review, originally posted on their website here. My views have not really changed since then.
